The third issue of Book Worms Horror Zine is going fast. The issue features new artwork by Charles Radcliffe, original horror fiction by Cameron Chaney, JG Faherty, Valerie Hunter, and e rathke, a list of Halloween reads by Elizabeth Sagewood, the History of Ben Cooper Halloween costumes by yours truly, a book review by Regina Saint Claire, a word search, a riddle, comics by myself and Regina, a boardgame centerfold, and as always the Ask Dr. J column. The Book Worms Horror Podcast will resume this week. I missed a few weeks due to my health. You don’t want to miss this spectacular spooky issue. Click below to buy your copy today.
Muppet-style puppet progress
The photo above might look like two bizarre-looking monsters but in actuality, they are the mouths of two puppets. As I mentioned in last week’s newsletter, my son and I are working on creating our own muppet-style puppets. It’s hard to see all the work that went into making just one of these mouths. First, I needed to cut the wood for the top and bottom of the mouthpiece. I don’t have a bandsaw…or a jigsaw… or any real kind of saw so I ran out and bought a cheap coping saw to make the cuts. It wasn’t easy. We went to Home Depot for the wood. We picked up the red felt & suede for the finger loops at Joanne Fabric. I actually had quite a bit of scrap leather but I think my one son threw it out while making space for his LEGO. Barge contact cement was used for all the gluing. The finger loops were also hand-sewn to make the loops stay strong. It’s important to remember that these will be inside the head of the puppet so it doesn’t need to look pretty. It just needs to function, which they both do really well. I will continue to report on the progress each week.

How is my writing going?
Besides spending more time with my son, writing was a very strong reason for stepping back from the podcast. I am working on finishing a story that I started before I created the Real Demons podcast. It’s called The Ghouls of Dr. Forbers. It is set in late 19th-century Philadelphia. That’s all I’m going to tell you for now. Here is the cover I came up with back when I started the story.
That is all for now. Find me on Instagram for daily content.
