đ My Awesome Road Trip Through the Rest of 2025
The end of 2025 is shaping up to be one big, weird, wonderful road tripâand Iâm inviting you along! Iâll be bouncing between bookshops, punk-pop shows, doom metal concerts, horror icons, and of course, spreading the gospel of Book Worms Horror Zine. If youâre in the neighborhood for any of these events, come say hi, snag a zine, and hang out while we soak up all the creepy, weird, and fun energy this season has to offer.
đ September 14 â Lahaska Bookshop, Lahaska, PA
We kick things off close to home at the Lahaska Bookshop, where Iâll be selling Book Worms Horror Zine with co-founder R. Saint Claire. Come by to support local authors, pick up a copy of the zine, and chat about horror, weird fiction, and whatever spooky thoughts are rattling around your brain. If youâre anywhere near Peddlerâs Village, this is the perfect chance to start the season right.
đ¸ September 24 â Shonen Knife, New York, NY
Ten days later, Iâll be heading to Littlefield in Brooklyn to see the legendary Shonen Knife. This Japanese punk-pop trio has been blasting joy into the world since the â80s, blending Ramones-style riffs with quirky, bubblegum fun. If youâve never seen them live, imagine a mash-up of high-energy punk, food-themed anthems, and pure good vibes. Definitely a high-spirited stop on this haunted road trip.
đ October 5 â Castle Rat, Brooklyn, NY
Next stop: doom metal fantasy. Iâll be catching Castle Rat at the Music Hall of Williamsburg. Picture crushing riffs, theatrical performances, and a stage presence ruled by the Rat Queen herself. If you like Dungeons & Dragons, heavy guitars, and medieval chaos, this is a show you wonât want to miss.
đš October 10 â John Carpenter, Queens, NY
Friday, October 10, Iâll be witnessing horror royalty in action: John Carpenter live at the Knockdown Center. Synth-heavy scores from Halloween, The Thing, Escape From New York, and other classicsâplayed live. Hearing these themes in person is enough to give you goosebumps even if youâre not a horror aficionado. This will be my 3rd time seeing John Carpenter and his band live. Always a great time.
đ¸ October 11 â Team Dresch, Philadelphia, PA
The following night, Iâll be at Phillyâs First Unitarian Church for Team Dresch, celebrating 30 years of queercore glory. Theyâll be playing Personal Best and Captain My Captain in full, and Iâll be there soaking in every cathartic, punk-filled second.
đ October 12 â New York Comic Con, NYC
If I have any energy left that weekend, I hope to attend the NYCC. No October is complete without New York Comic Con at the Javits Center. Panels, indie artists, rare comics, celebrity sightingsâyou name it, itâs happening. Iâll be bouncing between artist alley, panels, and hunting down horror-themed collectibles. Expect me to be carrying a pile of comics, a coffee, and probably some merch I didnât plan on buying.
đ§ October 18 â Zombie Fest, Milton, DE
Time to join the undead! At Zombie Fest 2025, Iâll not only be enjoying food trucks, freak shows, and fireworks, but Iâll also have a table selling Book Worms Horror Zine. Come grab a copy, get weird with me, and maybe take a photo with a zombie or two.
đ November 1 â Philly Zine Fest, Philadelphia, PA
Back to Philly for Philly Zine Fest at Temple Universityâs Mitten Hall. This is one of my favorite eventsâover 100 zinesters, writers, and creators coming together to swap DIY work and share ideas. Iâll be selling Book Worms Horror Zine, chatting with readers, and soaking up all the analog, indie energy.
đ November 22 â NYC Indie Horror Book Fair, Queens, NY
Finally, Iâll be ending the year at the NYC Indie Horror Book Fair at Gottscheer Hall in Ridgewood. This is the ultimate indie horror hubâ35 authors and small presses focused on all things dark, weird, and unsettling. Iâll have Book Worms Horror Zine with me, so if you want your holiday gift pile to lean toward the creepy, this is your stop.
đş The Road Ahead
From bookshops and zines to punk-pop, doom metal, and horror legends, this fall and early winter is packed. If you see me along the way, come say hi, snag a zine, and join in the fun. Coffee in one hand, comics in the other, and a stack of Book Worms Horror Zine? Thatâs my perfect haunted road trip.
This Weekâs Thrift Store Find:
1940s Woodette Helicopter Pull Toy
While thrifting this week, I stumbled upon a gem: a 1940s Woodette Helicopter pull toy. FOR $3! This vintage piece is a delightful example of mid-century American craftsmanship. Manufactured by Woodette, Inc. between 1943 and 1950, this toy features a painted wooden body, plastic and metal components, and a string for pulling. Its design reflects the eraâs fascination with aviation and the burgeoning helicopter technology.
The Woodette Helicopter is not just a toy; itâs a nostalgic artifact that captures the imagination of children from a bygone era. Whether youâre a collector or simply appreciate vintage toys, this find is a testament to the enduring charm of classic American toys.
