Writing about Writing
Inspired by Robert Heinlein’s first rule—You Must Write, I created an account on Medium to write about writing and creativity. While this newsletter will update what I am up to every week, the Medium articles focus on what I have learned/am learning about the writing craft. My latest article is about my thoughts on reading a James Patterson novel. If that sounds like something you are interested in, please follow me on Medium.
The Short Film
This past week, a few others and I did a first read-through of the short film script. We did it over Facetime. It was quite fun and gave us some insights into improving the script. We should be doing a second read-through this weekend. More to come on this as it develops.
I’m so-so at sew-sew
I have been sewing every day, trying to improve. Sewing is so relaxing but isn’t easy. My sewing machine is jammed, and I haven’t fixed it, so I have no choice but to hand sew. But I can see improvement and look forward to getting the puppets covered in fleece and then working on the details: eyes, nose, ears, hair, etc.
Finish What You Start
A new episode of the Writing Fiction podcast will be about Robert Heinlein’s second rule of writing: Finish What You Start. It will go live tomorrow (Saturday, June 13th, 2024). I have struggled with this throughout my life, but I have been working on following this rule in all that I do. I hope you listen on your favorite podcast app.
Thrift Store Finds
I am happy to report that I returned to the thrift store on Monday morning, and the Alice in Wonderland book was still there. This 1978 edition is a facsimile of the 1907 Edition with beautiful artwork by Arthur Rackham. But my luck didn’t stop there. I found the 1977 novelization of Star Wars. That gold paperback cover brought me back to my childhood.
