Up next, Lamia
I am behind in sending out the Newsletter. But with this one, I hope to be back on track.
A new book is out and one of my short stories is in it. The book is Lurking in the Dark.
You never know what's lurking in the dark! Presenting 24 monstrous tales from some of your favorite HorrorTubers!
This latest HorrorTube anthology deals with the very bedrock layer of the horror genre: monsters. HorrorTube is the dark corner of YouTube where horror aficionados – and horror authors – hang out and make videos, and in these pages several of HorrorTube’s brightest stars spin tales about that bedrock horror layer, the monster. (from the foreword by Steve Donoghue)
I will be giving away a paperback copy of the book so stay tuned to my socials. If you don’t care for giveaways and want to get started reading the anthology, click the link above.
A new episode of The Real Demons of Pop Culture will be released on October 24th. It will be the story of the Lamia. The Lamia is the demon in Drag Me To Hell, a Sam Raimi film that doesn’t get the love it deserves.
The Lamia is also the main antagonist in Neil Gaiman’s Stardust. I recently recommended Stardust to a friend who never read Gaiman. I think it is a great introduction to his work and a fast read.
The Lamia also appears in the Final Fantasy game series.
There are similarities between the Lamia and Lilith and Medusa, two previous episodes of RDPC.
The artwork for the Real Demons Ars Goetia coloring book is coming along nicely. I will post some sneak peaks in next week’s newsletter. I have also been picking up the pencil again to get the rust out of my drawing. Lots of artwork will be part of the future of RDPC.
Don’t waste your time watching the new Halloween Ends movie. It is awful. Speaking of Horror films, 1982 was a great year for horror. All these films turn 40 this year:
John Carpenter’s The Thing
Poltergeist
Halloween III
Cat People
The Entity (mentioned in the Sex Demons episode)
Creepshow
The Slumber Party Massacre
and so many more. What a great time to watch movies.
On my TikTok I have added a few series. I have been reading The Satanic Bible by Anton LaVey. I am starting a series called The Devil Made Them Do It talking about true crime that the killers blamed the devil on their crimes. I am also starting a series focusing on the devil in art throughout history. If you follow me on Instagram, you will also get a chance to see these new series.
I hope you are all well and I am very grateful for you all.
Peace,
James
