The Real Demons Of Pop Culture hit a milestone this week. The episode about Hades pushed the podcast into the top 25% of all podcast. I was so excited that I forgot to send out this newsletter on Friday.
I have to thank my friend, the horror author, Regina Saint Claire for unknowingly being the person who set fire to the Hades episode.
She sent me a news article about a female “vampire” grave found in Poland. I made a TikTok about it and the video blew up (190k views as of this writing) There is a direct connection between that video and the listens on the podcast. You can buy Regina’s new book CODE RED here.
On TV I am watching the Netflix series Devil In Ohio. I’m not finished but I am loving the Satanic cult element. Depending on how it plays out, I might do an episode about it.
My kids are all back in school this week. I am so happy to be able to get the quiet I need to do all the work I have coming up.
This week also makes 2 years I have been consistently posting on TikTok. I have learned a lot in the past 2 years but the main thing is that nobody knows what the algorithm is up to. All these social media gurus are full of it. The only thing a person can do is try to create their best work consistently until they can no longer be ignored. I am on a five year plan and so far I am happy with what I’ve accomplished. There is also a funnel theory I have about how to get social networks to funnel into each other. But that is a story for another time.
The School of Dark Arts (SODA) Facebook group is growing steadily. If you are interested in joining the free group, click here.
On the next episode of The Real Demons of Pop Culture I will be discussing the Incubus and Succubus demons. And I am working on what the YouTube Live follow-up episode with be. Check out past YouTube episodes here.
Finally, I spoke with author Grady Hendrix (Horrorstör, My Best Friend’s Exorcism, We Sold our Souls) about being a guest on my podcast. Currently he is working on a book but he agreed to an interview at the start of the new year to talk about his new book. I’m looking forward to that interview since I really enjoy his special brand of horror. The film adaptation of My Best Friend’s Exorcism is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on September 30, 2022. Watch the trailer here.
Thanks for everything,
James
